The End of Free Speech

The concealed reason behind SOPA, the internet's anti-piracy bill has little to do with piracy and more to do with the efforts of our government to imitate Communist China's system of internet censorship. Joe Lieberman, co-sponsor of PIPA (Protect Intellectual Property Act) , SOPA’s sister version now in the Senate, said the purpose behind the US government’s efforts to control the Internet is due to cybersecurity during a time of war.

Lieberman played down public fear that the US government would use such powers to censor political discontent as “total misinformation,” yet later admits that the purpose behind the docket is to copy China's power to “disconnect parts of its Internet in case of war,” adding, “we need that here too”.

Says Paul Watson of Infowars.com, “Of course, Communist China’s “war” is not against foreign terrorists or hackers, it’s targeted against people who dare to use the internet to express dissent against government atrocities or corruption.” As Lieberman well knows, China's system of internet patrolling is NOT about security concerns – it's about suppressing freedom of speech.

Whatever guise Lieberman wishes to use, in the end the main purpose for PIPA is to justify website shut downs on a whim at the US government's desire. This is a mere act to systematize what is already taking place. According to Watson, “Lieberman himself was instrumental in having the whistle blower website Wikileaks shut down when Amazon axed Wikileaks from it's servers after being pressured to do so by Lieberman's Senate Homeland Security Committee.”

The Department of Homeland Security has already seized dozens of websites merely for linking to copyrighted material, despite the fact that such material isn't even hosted on the website itself, a process the Electronic Frontier Foundation has criticized as, “Blunt instruments that cause unacceptable collateral damage to free speech rights.” The DHS has also confiscated websites for no apparent reason, including a popular music blog which was shut down for over a year on charges the DHS later admitted were unfounded.

While Wikipedia and Google have admirably protested against SOPA and PIPA, the other big ISP's and domain name companies are for it. Verisign recently asked for the ability to terminate websites deemed “abusive” if so ordered by the government even without a court order or any kind of oversight.

Watson goes on to say, “The ultimate end game of SOPA is not merely about handing the federal government the power to shut down websites. Once such powers are granted, the only way to police such a system would be to require all website owners, and eventually anyone who posts any form of content on the Internet, to require permission from the state to do so. This will take the form of an individual Internet ID for every user – again part of Lieberman’s favored Chinese-style system – which can be granted or revoked at the discretion of the authorities. Under such a system, the state will be able to create a far friendlier environment for controlling the flow of information, Bill Clinton’s proposed ‘Internet Ministry of Truth’ will flourish, and Hillary Clinton’s concerns about “losing the infowar” will be addressed. This is the true secret behind SOPA, it’s another step towards abolishing anonymity and creating an infrastructure under which, just as in the physical domain, every act of commerce, communication or exercise of freedoms will first have to be approved by an authority figure before it is allowed to take place.”

So it appears the New World Order is continuing to take shape as our national sovereignty becomes a distant memory. Our children and grandkids will never know what we once enjoyed. It may not be long before we see the likes of Jon Stewart/Comedy Central, or Alex Jones/infowarsdotcom removed from the airwaves because of their ability to communicate to the public the lies and true agenda of our government.

Good bye constitution!  I love you.
